1. Who is Kana Takarada and Matteo Morelli?
Kana & Matteo: We met in Science of design department class in Musabi. And when we got to work together we decided we would do a collaboration. Our aesthetic sensibility and approach to the project is very similar, in spite of our visual culture is completely different. But probably this is our strength.

E: ふたりはどのようにして知り合ったんですか？
K&M: 昨年、武蔵美の基礎デザイン学科の授業で知り合いました。文化的背景や生活環境が全く異なるにもかかわらず、制作に対する姿勢や好み、センスがとても似ていたので何かコラボレーションしたいと思っていました。 お互いの異なる文化に刺激を受けながら、制作できることが私たちの強みだと思います。

2. How do you define your work, Kana?
Kana: People said my works are poetic but I didn’t mean to make it poetic.
And I think the reason why they think my works are poetic is that I really care about
the space and balance of my works. I don’t want white space just be empty or just blank.
It is always very important for me to put ideas or meanings in my works, As an graphic designer, I have to explain my works, why I chose the color and why I chose this position.

E: かなさんは、自分の作品をどう説明しますか？
K: 私のグラフィックデザインを見る人は「とても詩的だね」という感想を持ってくれます。 詩的に作ろうと意識したことはほとんどありませんが、たぶんそれは私が白い余白をただの余白として見られないように気をつけているからだと思います。「間」の感覚をとても大切にしていて、白いスペースの意味も説明できるデザインを心がけています。

4. As directors of EGGOISM exhibition , why do you want to hold this event ?
Kana & Matteo : We came up the idea of group exhibition to show our collaboration. We think that the creation of an art event is the best way to train and learn ourselves. Moreover it is a good opportunity to broaden our view with other young artists of different fields. Creating a stimulating design network is also one of our goals.

E: ふたりは、なぜこの企画を思いついたんですか？
K&M: 私たちのコラボレーションというアイデアが、グループ展にたどり着いたんです。展示に向けて制作するというプロセスは、私たちにとって良い経験が積めると同時にどのように自分の作品と向き合うかを学べる良い機会です。さらに他の分野で活躍する、刺激的な若いアーティストと一緒に参加することで視野が広がれば良いなと思っています。活気溢れるスペースを作ることも私たちの目標のひとつです。


5. Why do you chose egg as the topic of this exhibition ?
Kana & Matteo : “eggs” are cool and pop as motif but “egoism” is too strong. So we decided to mix up two contrasting concepts and create the theme that is still cool and friendlier to everybody. We wanted to see how different artists, different egos, can express eggs.

E: どうしてたまごがテーマなんですか？
K&M: 「たまご」はモチーフとして、ポップでイケてるけど、「エゴイズム(利己主義)」は少し固すぎる。テーマとして十分にクールでありながらも、私たちの生活に馴染んでいるようなものを選びました。さまざまなエゴが異なるたまごを表現する、そんな空間を見てみたいと思ったからです！


6. What do you expect in the end of the exhibition? Selling some works related EGGOISM?
Kana & Matteo : Selling some works would be great, but it is not our priority. We just want to share our works with many people, and some of our friends will come as well. Especially we are really interested in how people who are not related to art will react to our works and enjoy our art! And we think this is an opportunity for people to see different kind of art works in one space.

E: 今回の展示で何を期待していますか？作品は販売するの？
K: 作品が売れることは素晴らしいことですが、作品からの金銭的な利益は優先していません。私たちはただ人々と作品をシェアしたいだけです。アートに携わっていない人がどのような反応をしてくれるのかとても興味があります。誰でもアートを楽しめる空間になれば良いなと思います！
